Teen Drivers (TSE) Program
Terms & Policies

The International Drivers Academy (IDA) Teen Drivers Traffic Safety Education (TSE) program involves 30 hours of classroom instruction, 4 hours of in-class simulation, 5 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction, and 1 hour of behind-the-wheel observation. By enrolling, the students and their parents/guardians agree to adhere to the course requirements outlined in the Parent-Teen Safe-Driving Agreement and commit to meeting these requirements while following IDA's terms and policies.

Course Fee and Enrollment

  • The course fee is $639, payable by credit card, and must be paid in full to secure a spot in the class.

  • The course requires a minimum of 10 students to proceed.

  • A fee will apply for disputing a valid credit card charge.

  • Refunds, minus the registration fee, are available only before the first class session. No refunds will be issued after the second class session or if the student is suspended, expelled, or fails the class for any reason.

Eligibility and Permit Requirements

  • Students must be at least 15 years old by the course start date and must have an Instruction Permit.

  • Students under 15½ can pre-apply for the Instruction Permit but cannot visit the Department of Licensing (DOL) to obtain it earlier than ten days before the course start date.

  • The Instruction Permit must be obtained no later than three days after the course begins.

Online In-Class Training

  • Attendance at the orientation during the program's first class via Zoom is mandatory for parents/guardians.

  • Students may miss and make up a maximum of three classes. Exceeding this limit will result in removal from the program.

Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Lessons

  • Students must show a valid Instruction Permit and wear any required glasses or contacts for each BTW lesson. 

  • Failure to bring the required documents or eyewear will result in the session being canceled and considered a no-show. 

  • Additional BTW lessons beyond the 5 hours included in the program will cost $85 per hour.

  • A 48-hour minimum notice is required for rescheduling or cancellation.

  • Rescheduling with more than 48 hours' notice incurs no charge, while late rescheduling (less than 48 hours' notice) incurs a $50 fee per hour.

  • Any cancellation incurs a $15 fee per session, with late cancellations (less than 48 hours' notice) incurring a $50 fee per hour. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are non-refundable.

  • No refunds will be provided for late arrivals exceeding a 10-minute grace period from the appointment time.

  • Students are required to complete at least 50 additional hours of driving practice (including 10 hours at night) with a qualified adult who has insurance coverage on their vehicle.

Course Completion

  • The minimum course length is 30 days, and all course requirements must be completed within 4 months.

  • Upon completing the course, an electronic certificate will be reported to the DOL, which may take up to seven days.
